Back when there was actually direct communication from God, the people had no choice they had to hear it from God himself. There were no guessing games, as to how one was suppose to act. Actions spoke louder then words. The people constantly went in the opposite direction. No respect, no faith. They actually acted like some of our children today. The children that we want to give everything to. Who end up to be spoiled and not mindful of the things that were given to them. Thus were the children of God then. To some extent that is how some act now. The thing that sets us apart from then as opposed to now, is Christ. Jesus interceded on mans behalf.
Rom. 8:3-4, "For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the
flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and
as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh. in order that the
requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk
according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."
